Video advertising from the heart: ads we love from Google to Guinness

25th October 2013

Video marketing is really getting something right when it inspires and moves us. Today, Claire, our Production Manager, gets emotional and shares two such video campaigns she loves.

Both adverts are promoting very different products – Google Maps and Guinness – but they share fundamental elements that we’d recommend for content marketing campaigns – using authenticity, emotions and storytelling to inspire.

Google Maps Video Ad – Saroo Brierley: Homeward Bound

This video ad for Google Maps tells the remarkable true story of Saroo Brierley. Born in India, as a five-year old Saroo got lost at a train station and ended up miles away, finally being adopted by an Australian family.

Watch the video advert to see how he finds his way back home.

This video is really powerful and moving with the real-life element adding authenticity. The Google Maps product is brought alive by showing how it can solve real-life issues. Saroo finds his way back home by using Google Maps to identify places from childhood memories, and so the product becomes visually linked with human emotions.

A very compelling video advert indeed.

New Guinness Video Advert – Basketball

This latest video marketing campaign from Guinness doesn’t disappoint either.

Emotive music and great story-telling work to create the mood. Our expectations are turned around by the end of the ad, and the brand values of determination, loyalty, and friendship are reinforced by playing with our emotions. The ad’s twist adds a touch of humour and stresses the product’s values, reiterating that Guinness is drunk by mates that go the extra mile.

We created a film for Astrium recently which evokes a similar feeling. What do you think?
