Supporting The 0117 Short Film Challenge at Encounters Film Festival

19th April 2013

Earlier this week 20 teams of the most talented filmmakers, animators, visual and sound artists in the South West have been completing the 0117 Short Film Challenge as part of the Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival. Beginning on Saturday afternoon participants had the daunting task of producing a short film, of less than 3 minutes in length, around the theme of ‘Journeys’ exploring Bristol’s Temple Quarter development and surrounding areas.

The 0117 Hour Challenge, which is now in its third year, is part of a series of Bristol Temple Quarter commissions, co-ordinated by The Watershed, Knowle West Media Centre, And MAYK, with support from Bristol City Council and Arts Council England – which is being presented by Bristol Film Office.

The challenge now forms an integral part of The Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, one of the world’s best-known showcases for international short and animated film talent.

We’re delighted to be supporting this year’s event, and throughout the course of the challenge, we’ve been following some of the filmmakers to see exactly what goes into turning a film around in such a short time period. We’ll be releasing a film that we’ve produced about the challenge for Encounters later in the year.

Our MD, Jon Mowat, is also judging this year’s entries, alongside Peter Carlton of Warp Films, and Simon Cook and Julie Finch, both from Bristol City Council. The winner will be announced at a celebratory event at The MShed this evening (Friday 19th April 2013). If you don’t get a chance to make it along this evening some of the best entries will also be being screened at The Encounters Festival, 17-22 September 2013.
