Our charity film goes to the ball

04th June 2015

We were so proud to see our charity film screened at Together for Short Lives’ Midsummer Ball hosted by their patron, Simon Cowell.

Together for Short Lives is the leading UK charity for all children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and all those who support, love and care for them. Their Midsummer Ball was presented by Marvin and Rochelle Humes, with entertainment from the likes of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, Katie Melua, Stephen Mulhern, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Jack Pack and Isaac Waddington, plus a DJ set from Grammy award winning William Orbit.

Award-winning charity film

It was a real privilege to see our award-winning film “We’re having a baby” up on stage too, which describes that difficult moment when a couple hears that their child is seriously ill.

The animation gains its power and authenticity from real-life stories, and at the event it was inspiring to listen to Lizzie Hornby sharing her story of caring for her son William, who has a life-limiting condition, Edwards Syndrome.

Rather than a talking heads descriptive film, we knew that this charity needed to tell its powerful story in a more emotive way. In preparation for our film, we interviewed families who were going through this heart-breaking situation and turned their experiences into a poignant but inspiring script. With the help of illustrator, Katy Davis, the Hurricane team transformed the stories into a beautiful hand-drawn film.

This video has had more than 11,000 views on YouTube so far and counting – five times the number the charity has achieved for any previous film. We also helped them manage a video seeding and blogger outreach campaign which resulted in the video being shared on high-profile sites such as Mumsnet and Creative Bloq as well as relevant, niche blogs.

Congratulations to Together for Short Lives for such a successful evening, with the event, including an auction, raising over £385,000. We’re looking forward to working with this charity on further video content very soon.
